What do they need to eat?
Quality koi food is recommended, make sure they are fed much more and regularly in hot weather and much less in winter. High protein is recommended in summer months and wheatgerm in winter. They also love and benefit from cooked veggies.
Can they be kept with any other fish?
Koi can be kept happily will all big nonaggressive Coldwater fish such as goldfish. However, most koi enthusiast prefer to only keep koi.
Why are they all different prices?
Koi pricing varies greatly due to breed, body shape, color quality and bloodlines.
Are they hard to care for?
Compared to most other fish koi are considered extremely hardy and tolerant. Having an appropriately sized pond and filtration makes keeping a breeze. They are very tolerant of temperatures, water conditions and diseases.
Do I have to filter the water?
Absolutely. Your filter and pump should run all year round, 24 hours a day. Today’s high efficiency pumps keep electricity costs to a minimum. You can make your own filter quite easily or you can choose one of the proprietary Koi pond filters that are available. They key is to ask for advice BEFORE you get started on your pond and filter.
